At Pinpoint CNC Services, we’re always looking for great companies that go the “extra mile”. This is one of those companies.

A few weeks ago an old customer called and left me a message. I checked the voice-mail but he left no details regarding the current problem. I called him back to see what was up. In short, this is what had happened: someone had walked through their facility with a hammer (or some such thing), and smashed in the screens on 18 machines. That’s right, 18.

This is one of those calls that seems so incredibly bad, that I couldn’t imagine what I could do to help. The guy was  looking to replace all the damaged screens. The problem was that there were many different screens that had been damaged. I think they were all Fanuc controls on the machines in question, but from different model Fanuc controls and varying from very new to 20 years old. I recommended that he call Fanuc or GE Fanuc to start the process of getting part numbers and price/ availibility information. He said that he had already done this and was having trouble getting the part #’s identified for some of the displays, even with Fanuc trying to find the part numbers.

Wow…Ok, what do you do with that? I hunted around on the internet using one of the NEC numbers that the customer had given me, and did find a website that indicated that the company had, or could get the part. I sent an email requesting that they contact the customer. As far as I know, they never did.

I did not hear from the customer for about a week. He then called to thank me for my attempt to assist the prior week (even though I really couldn’t help them. They’re just  good people like that). He also said that now all was well and most of the machines were up and running. I believe he was waiting on a few more parts to show up, but the problem was well in hand. I was amazed. “How in the world did you manage that?” I asked. He said that there was a company in Tennessee that was able to assist him with identifying and supplying all the needed parts. He said this company was extremely helpful, followed up on his needs, and was a pleasure to deal with. He also said that on certain items that he was able to compare head-to-head with Fanuc, the pricing was as good or better than the Fanuc price. With such high praises for company, I felt that I should make my readers aware of this company for their own needs in the future. I know that I have never really recommended anyone other than Fanuc for replacements of Fanuc parts, mostly because I didn’t know who else could do it right. Maybe next time I will.

The company is Tennessee Industrial Electronics. The website is http://www.fanucworld.com. Here are a few words from their homepage:

“T.I.E. specializes in Fanuc parts and Fanuc repair. Our goal is to save you 20-25% off the OEM exchange and repair price.* However, on items that the OEM does not offer exchange credit such as motors, monitors, spindle drives and some servo drives you can save 40-50% by providing a repairable exchange.*

T.I.E. has built it’s business on a system of exchanges that can save you up to 50% off the OEM list price on items that do not have exchange credit.* Exchanging parts lowers the price and keeps hard-to-find parts in circulation for the next person with a machine down.”

So, hats off to T.I.E. for helping this customer out of what might have otherwise been an extremely difficult and costly situation.
