CNC Repair Tip #1: Proximity Switch Wiring (Old vs. New, 3 Wire vs. 2 Wire)
Attention: Please read the Terms of Use for this site before proceeding.
Proximity switch wiring. After years of working in CNC service, I still have trouble remembering this information when I need it. I thought it would be a good topic.
Recently, I have been working on rebuilding machines. All of the switches (24vdc) are being replaced. As is often the case, the old 3-wire proximty switches are no longer readily available and I end up using new 3-wire switches (new wire colors) or 2-wire switches. These guidelines for wiring these switches (listed below) will not apply to every switch on the planet, but for Omron, Yamatake and many others, this will work:
OLD STYLE 3-WIRE PROXIMITY SWITCH:
RED = +24VDC
BLACK = 0V
WHITE = SIGNAL OUTPUT
NEW STYLE 3-WIRE PROXIMITY SWITCH
BROWN = +24VDC
BLUE = 0V
BLACK = SIGNAL OUTPUT
NEW STYLE 2-WIRE PROXIMITY SWITCH
BROWN = +24VDC
BLUE = SIGNAL OUTPUT
