Fanuc Beta and Fanuc Beta i Alarms
If your machine uses Fanuc Beta drives to operate your ATC, APC, magazine, etc., and there is an alarm on the Beta drive, you may notice that the only alarm that is initially displayed on the screen of the operator’s panel is a “generic” machine side or PC side alarm stating that the Beta alarm exists. It might display “AL XX MAGAZINE AMP ALARM” or “EXXXXX PMM ALARM” or “ATC AMP ERROR” or something similar. Typically, you are given no indication as to what problem the Beta drive has. You may have to access the “Power-mate Manager” (or PMM) screen to see the actual Beta alarm number displayed. Non Beta i drives (older generation) will have a single-digit seven-segment LED display with a number, letter, or symbol displayed that can help you determine what the alarm is, if you have the alarm list from the Fanuc manual to check what the number, letter, or symbol means. Beta i drives do not have this type of LED display. These drives will have two rows of small LEDs (green and red) that tell you the status of the amp. You can use these LEDs and the manual to determine the alarm number or you can access the PMM screen to get it.
The only thing displayed on the PMM “MESSAGE” screen will be alarm number(s). There will be no details about what the alarm cause might be on screen. Again, you will need the information from the Fanuc manual to determine what the alarm number means.
Use the following guide to get you to the alarm message screen display:
Checking Alarms of PMM for Beta Servo on Fanuc 30i, 31i Control:
Press [SYSTEM] hard key on operator panel
Press (>) soft key (far RH soft key under screen display) 5 times
Press (P.MATE MGR.) soft key
Press (MESSAGE) soft key
The default display will be for Slave No. 1. The machine builder may use several Beta drives in the machine to perform several different functions. Each will have it’s own slave number and screen display. You should know what Slave is for what function. If you don’t know, consult the machine maintenance manual or call the builder or dealer service to get the information. Even if you don’t know what slave is for what function, keep in mind that any numbers displayed on the PMM message screen is a Beta alarm. If you do not have a Beta alarm, there will be no number displayed. Therefore, if you were in the middle of an ATC cycle and the machine stops with the “generic” PMM alarm displayed, it’s a pretty good bet that the one Slave with alarm numbers displayed is the one running the ATC.
In order to change the slave display to look at different Beta drive messages (Slave No. 2 for example), do the following keystrokes:
Press (>) soft key
Press (OPRT.) soft key
Press (NEXT SL) soft key
You will see the highlight change from “No.1″ to “No. 2″. The message display for Slave No. 2 will then be displayed.
