CNC Repair Tip #16: 31iMA Fanuc Controls- Machine Position Display in Metric
Attention: Please read the Terms of Use for this site before proceeding.
This is a quick post pertaining tomachine position display on a Fanuc 31iMA control. Alot of you may know this one already, but since I didn’t (nor did alot of people that I called about this), I thought I’d post it since it’s fresh in my mind.
So I completed an installation today, and at the end the customer said that he would like the positions to be displayed in inches. No problem. I entered the G20 from MDI mode and pressed cycle start. The ABSOLUTE and RELATIVE positions were displayed in inches. However, the MACHINE position display was still in millimeters. It seems so basic, I couldn’t believe I was stuck on this. In any case, after several phone calles to people who usually know this sort of thing off the tops of their heads (but not this time), I finally called the right guy, and got the answer:
Fanuc CNC Parameter 3104.0 set to 1.
The Fanuc parameter manual states:
“3104#0 MCN Machine Postion
0: Regardless of whether input is made in mm or inches, the machine postion is displayed in mm for millimeters machines, or inches for inch machines.
1: When input is made in mm, the machine postion is displayed in mm, and when input is made in inches, the machine position is displayed in inches accordingly
